Working Towards a Cure

By profession, Alicia Sayas holds a Bachelor of Arts and MSW in Social Work from Howard University. She is a first generation Belizean American and a 26 year licensed social worker veteran.  She is also owner of Orchard Notary Services.

 

Ms. Sayas  considers herself a "designated survivor" of Triple Negative Breast Cancer in which she successfully completed an aggressive  treatment regimen that included 16 months of chemptherapy, 1 year of immunotherapy, 25 rounds of radiation, and two surgeries. Consequently, Ms. Sayas undoubtedly  attributes her "healing' to her unwavering faith. 

 

Ms. Sayas strongly believes in servant leadership. She is a  Susan G. Komen Public Policy Advocate/Lobbyist, feminist, social justice activist, and  diabetes educator. Historically, Ms. Sayas served as the Founder and  Executive Director of S.O.A.R. Mentoring Program from 2013-2020 until it was dismantled at the height of the Covid pandemic.

Ms. Sayas believes volunteering is "good medicine" and has a heart to serve her community. Prior to Ms. Sayas' charitable entrepreneurship  endeavors, Ms. Sayas was a volunteer HIV/AIDS counselor and tester with Whitman Walker Clinic, established and served  as the Creative Director for Sister 4 Sister's, Inc.  homeless and  HIV/AIDS programs, and was  also a volunteer with the Master's Touch Homeless Ministry of Reid Temple, AME, located in Glen Dale, Maryland for many years.

Ms. Sayas firmly believes when much is given, much is required and has dedicated her time, gifts, and talent to serving her community.   She is a twin, mother of two, aunt, loyal friend,  and "Agutu"  to Jasper. 

 

In Ms. Sayas' spare time, she delights in spending time with close friends, family, and "all things" outdoors. Ms. Sayas is also a self proclaimed fitness and foodie enthusiast and enjoys trying new vegan recipes and desserts.
